Getting to Victoria, BC
Victoria is easily accessible by plane or ferry. Choose a nonstop flight to Victoria International Airport, catch a bird’s-eye view from a floatplane or helicopter, or enjoy the scenery from aboard a relaxing ferry. Check out your options here. I have listed the most common methods below.
By Plane – Victoria International Airport (YYJ)
As the main airport in Victoria, airlines fly in and out of the airport daily including Air Canada, Air North, Alaska Airlines, Flair Airlines, Harbour Air, Pacific Coastal Airlines, Porter and Westjet. The airport is located 27 km (17 mi) from downtown Victoria, and is about a half hour drive.
By Ferry (via Vancouver) BC Ferries
The fun and comfortable BC ferry ride from Vancouver to Victoria takes approximately 1 hour and 35 minutes and for foot passengers costs from $15 each way if you book ahead. If you bring your car, costs start at $49 each way depending on timing. It is highly recommended you have a reservation. From Vancouver you would leave from the Tsawwassen terminal and go to the Victoria (Swartz Bay) terminal. In Vancouver, the Tsawwassen terminal is about 28km or 30 minutes (depending on traffic) from the airport. The Victoria Swartz Bay terminal is just past the airport, 32km or 33 minutes from the hotel. For more information and to book your ferry, see the BC Ferries site here.
By Ferry (via Seattle) Black Ball Ferry Line
Seattle a better landing location for you? Head across the sea to Victoria from there! The Black Ball Ferry Line from Port Angeles, WA to Victoria takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes and for foot passengers costs approximately USD$23 each way if you book ahead. If you bring your car, costs start at USD$78 each way depending on timing. It is highly recommended you have a reservation. From Seattle, the Port Angeles terminal is a bit of a hike about 100 miles or 2.5 hours from the airport (the Black Ball website has suggestions on how to get there). The good news is, once you arrive in Victoria, you are in the heart of downtown and less then a km (1/2 mile) 10 minute walk to the hotel!
From the Airport and Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal (from Vancouver)
Once you arrive North of Victoria, there are various options to get downtown – car rentals, ubers, taxi, or bus to name a few. See the Victoria Airport website or BC Ferry website for all the options or read below for the most common ones.
